PRESS RELEASE

SECURITY WORLD 2008 – CONFERENCE AND SHOWCASE

1st – 3rd December 2008, New World Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City

Hanoi, August 18th, 2008, The Conference and Showcase “Security World 2008 - HCMC” will take place from 1st to 3rd December 2008 at New World Hotel, HCMC. The event will be co-organized by General Department of Technology – Ministry of Public Security, and International Data Group (IDG Vietnam).

After “Security World 2008” on March 2008 in Hanoi, information security draws great attention from society, especially from enterprises in sectors of finance, stock, manufacture, and commercial services, etc. Following the successes of previous Security World, this HCMC version is expected to enhance awareness of enterprises of securitiy issue and their investment in security solutions for sustainable business

With the theme of “Information Security Strategy for Sustainable Business Operations”, “Security World 2008 - HCMC” will focus exclusively on businesses. According to Ms. Vilaiporn Taweelappontong – Director in Security Practice from PricewaterhouseCoopers, “Information security is not solely a technical term but also a business activity. In other words, it is obligation of information system users, instead of technicians only”.

In the context of dynamic and inter-connected business world, enterprises should pay much more attention to business information and data security. In “Security World 2008” on March 2008 in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Information and Communication, confirmed: “The development of ICT is accompanied with security issues such as virus spread, website attack, national information system penetration. Meanwhile, quite a few organizations and enterprises remain modest investment on network and data security.”

Following BKIS reports, virus attack and spread, new swindles through Internet is gradually increasing. On June 2008 only, there were 2,675 new viruses appearing in Vietnam, badly affecting 5,462,000 computers. Moreover, that host computer systems of hosting companies seem to be a promising target for hackers causes damage to enterprises’ operations. Lately, PA Vietnam website – one of the most successful domain hosting suppliers in Vietnam was abused by foreign hackers. Accordingly, thousands of Vietnamese organizations and enterprises’ domain were paralyzed; website and email systems of those organizations are absolutely under control of hackers. Shortage of information security in enterprises is obviously an alarming problem.

In the context, “Security World 2008 – HCMC” will focus on enterprises’ top concerns:

  •  The demand for security of enterprises

  •  Security threats to enterprises

  •  Security strategies for enterprises

  •  Risk management and Business continuity

  •  Latest security technology and solutions

“SECURITY WORLD 2008 – HCMC” CONFERENCE

Conference will take place on December 3rd 2008, focusing on:

  •  Risk management and Compliance in finance and banking sector

Finance experts and consultants will share risk management models and latest security policies to help banks and financial institutions to actively handle threats of information security as well as risk in operating procedures, currency and credit, liquidity, etc.

  •  Security strategies for SMEs

One of the greatest challenges for enterprises is shortage of financial and human resource while they are already aware of the need for information security. Hence, unlike big corporations, SMEs should pay due attention to effective investment rather than largely-scaled and total security solution.

  • Crisis Recovery and Business Continuity Management

Increasingly, enterprises, especially ones coming from finance and banking sector, are now dealing with more imposing and complex amount of data. The need for data safety and quick recovery of business operation after crisis becomes indispensable. Banks, stock exchanges, and financial organizations are recently concerned about building up data centers and disaster recovery system.

  • Network security, website and network application for enterprises

After such a lot of abuse and take over of enterprises’ websites, network security has been getting priority in numerous ICT discussions. In the Conference, most modern products and solutions will be introduced with the aim to giving the alarm to enterprises and enhancing their awareness of disasters which may be caused by network gaps, or bugs in website and network application.

  • Business Data Security

Already, enterprises have firmly focused on ICT-led business innovation. Data and information of enterprises as well as ones of their customers are in danger of loss and/or illegal uses. Latest technology Data Loss Prevention, Data Storage and Back up will be also public and exhibited in the Conference and Exhibition this year.

  • Secure communication in business operation

The session will stress on the danger of insecure information originating from internal, B2B, B2C communication channels. Wireless communications methods, VoIP are becoming popular, which helps enterprises to be more flexible and economical in business operations. Despite this, they are coupled with potential security errors.
